Magic Trick 04:07
I learned a magic trick A disappearing act A little hideout from the world Displacing memories Replacing them with remedy A starry night, a cabin the woods The air was cold in there The middle of nowhere I chose to listen from the start Hours passed into days The silence dripped away I slowly came apart I find I'm amazed, solitude I sang of days gone by I hummed a lullaby Remembered how to breathe No way to be misunderstood Alone, me and the firewood No one to hear me but the trees I find I'm amazed, solitude And now I'm mesmerized, enchanted by this exercise There's no more normal left in me My skeptic put to sleep Awakened inner majesty Finding alchemy I find I'm amazed, solitude

Pick Up 03:39 video
Don't you tell me I can't cry I hear stories whispered in the night The story starts with once upon a time Can you tell me my next line? The earth began to shake Four a.m., forced awake When the music finally sings I'll start counting it like telephone rings Pick up, pick up, pick up I am naked at your feet Drawn in by your radiant heat Our home, the one thing that we know Is built of bricks and colored indigo I am crawling in my skin Waiting on forever to begin I am stuck in one day at a time Take the call, report the crime Pick up, pick up, pick up Leave a message at the tone I will call you when I find my home Leave a message at the tone I will find you when I find my home The story starts with once upon a time Can you tell me my next line?

What could it possibly mean? This broken ladder we're climbing Each step is getting shorter Our words are out of order There's truth there behind your eyelids A pale blue line surrounded You took me across the ocean We landed at true devotion You breathe, breathe Life, into me, onto you A day is caught on repeat Right in the middle we meet Your lips and mine, perfection We walk in the same direction You breathe, breathe Life, into me, onto you

Salty Tears 04:23
Broken window Smashed in while it was dark Now you've got your hands up It was so rainy The night that you broke me in Now I am waterlogged again Oh as I drown You're etched into my fears I'm licking my wounds And crying salty tears Real love is a bird That sings into my ear And water that saves me When death draws near I was drunk on the elixir That fell from your eyes to mine Crazy glue sealed the broken me inside Oh how it burned You're etched into my fears I'm licking my wounds And crying salty tears Please just use your crowbar The next time that you come around Make it quick and painless Leave your glass on the ground
5.
Breathless 04:31
She woke up breathless She was born this way Her mother prayed to God Please, let her stay I woke up breathless Yet again today Some days it seems I'm going nowhere fast So God, get out of my way If only each day would end Without her falling toward the edge She would wake up and forget This feeling isn't over yet You made her restless Stole her soul every day Rendered her lifeless Till she found her way The road, it widened Her faith was a stream That turned into a river Now there's room to dream If only each day would end Without her falling toward the edge She would wake up and forget This feeling isn't over yet
6.
I remember sneaking in after dark; he held my hand We sauntered through the park; I knew that you would never understand I think that was a moment when I learned to lie I was always fighting you as you sang your lullabies I sat at your black piano; you loved your wooden rocking chair I was not much smaller then, but I had longer hair Even though you loved the look of my messy curls You always tried to find the way to tame your wild girl You tried to raise me right You taught me how to fight Then I grew up right before your eyes Can you just let go and realize That I learned from you just how to be and what to do Let me be the one to choose I promise I'll try and do right by you Every morning started with a mirror serenade Into my hairbrush, I was the little mermaid I tried my hardest to sound just like you To be the beauty you pushed into view I remember growing up and learning how to love The mystery in all the things we dream of I'm starting to feel it now between my toes It's clear you've taught me everything you know
7.
The man at the top has no name The man at the top, he has no shame The earth beneath our feet is writhing in pain The ocean's edge begins to climb The clouds are forming, the change denied They've outlawed words Who are we to blame? Who are we to blame? Every day is feeling like a movie The kind where the plot is mostly gloomy Where did we go wrong and what should we believe? We raise our flags and speak our minds But the institution left us behind Cutting rungs from the ladder they told us to climb Who are we to blame? Who are we to blame? The water's poison, the air not much better Oh and look now, inclement weather Who are we to blame? Who are we to blame?
8.
I fell down down down In a round round robin I heard bottle breaking sounds I fell down down down down down down down On the ground ground ground I sat The stars looked bright and yet so flat You wandered round round round the woods Secretly stealing all you could Oh you sank the seas And drowned the core out of me Oh where are you now? Where are you now? I searched from dusk until sunrise Nothing there but cold, cold eyes The wind blew softly through the night Ran me right out of time The day was calm and still It captured me against my will Turn around now, look at me The fallen fruit of the apple tree Oh you sank the seas And drowned the core out of me Oh where are you now? Where are you now?
9.
He held a gun to my face And I learned just how fear tastes Like coal, it sticks to my skin Whittles me down till I am paper thin He was so young, a shadowed face Just after midnight in the wrong place He took my phone, he took my home And any feeling of being safe alone Will someone wake me from the dream Of that metal pistol? It's burned into my mind I used to sleep peacefully before the crime I tried to yell, to scream To wake up anyone who could hear me There was no other way to protect myself I kept my pride tucked away on the shelf Will someone save me from the dream Of that metal pistol? It's burned into my mind I used to sleep peacefully before the crime I beg you to tell me why it happened to me To test my faith or humility Inside the neighborhood behind the lake I learned to pray for daybreak
10.
There's a heart-shaped mirror in my chest It's covered over with a bulletproof vest It's got jagged edges that protect The parts interior I tend to neglect That heart-shaped mirror fell to the floor Just when you were looking, looking for more I pulled on the heartstring, saying stay right here But I've never been good at being a puppeteer Look closely and you will find A piece of me that you left behind I remember the time back in Santa Fe We had a free-for-all of come what may The sandy pink earth and the yellow aspen trees Are just like a mirror to a former me Look closely and you will find A piece of me that you left behind I won't be broke for much longer, I say I pack away pennies with each passing day That heart-shaped mirror, I carry it with me Look closely and you will find A piece of you that you left behind
11.
Whisper in my ear Tell me I look stunning today Kiss me, my dear There are no games to play I know you know That we have so much time To be grateful For all the treasures we find Keep it simple Hold me at bedtime Chase all my monsters away Wake up together Ready to face each day How did we find this Without even looking around Show up and listen Stand here on solid ground Keep it simple

about

Briget Boyle Oakland, California

Briget's songs are compelling reminders that healing and redemption are coming. With gritty, vulnerable lyrics, pristine vocals, and driving playing on her antique Gibson J45, Briget’s songs center the truth-telling power of the human voice. Sincerity is magnetic and Briget's songs inspire listeners to put pen to paper, clear their throats, and dust off their old guitars. ... more
